Over recent years marriage counselling has become a popular method for couples suffering relationship issues to try and resolve matters and get the relationship back on track. A marriage counsellor is trained to gain an insight into the relationship and try and identify the cause of the problems, which can then be addressed and resolved to promote a healthy relationship. There are various utilized strategies in marriage counselling, which are designed to help.

One of the newest strategies in marriage counselling is pre-marriage counselling, a service designed to help couples to prepare for marriage and identify one another’s needs and expectation of marriage before the marriage even takes place. The aim of this type of marriage counselling is to help couples identify and resolve issues before they tie the knot, hopefully giving them a head start in married life.

Other strategies in marriage counselling include interviewing the couple individually in order to get an idea of what each partner feels that the problems are. By carrying out individual sessions, the counsellor is able to identify the issues realistically without one partner being present to put pressure on the other, which can often mean that the counsellor doesn’t get the full story. Once the counsellor has sufficient information from each individual partner, the counselling is then moved forward to performing sessions with both partner present so that the issues identified can be resolved.
